Supercars Champion David Reynolds and Mark Winterbottom Unveil Special Pink Helmets to Support Breast Cancer Awareness
16 October, 2024
JAX Tyres & Auto has revealed this year's special edition helmets, which will be worn by Supercars champions David Reynolds and Mark Winterbottom in the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 taking place from 25-27 October, as part of its commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The limited-edition pink helmets have been uniquely designed and painted by renowned helmet artist Trent Rogers of 6Star Custom Paint, with Reynolds’ helmet featuring pink padding on the inside, adding a stylish touch.
Additionally, the helmets are fully equipped with a D2N Radio Kit that connects to a radio in the car, allowing the team to communicate with the driver during the race. Each helmet also includes a fan that circulates cool air inside, enhancing comfort for the drivers on the track. These features are essential for maintaining open lines of communication and ensuring the drivers’ comfort throughout the race.
A driver’s helmet is a piece of intellectual property unique to each driver and serves as not just a safety device, but a statement piece.
David Reynolds, reigning Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 champion, says, “This initiative that JAX Tyres & Auto has put together in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation is incredibly important, and this year it’s even more special because I get to promote the cause with my teammate. This year’s helmet design really stands out with some fun Gold Coast elements, like palm trees, and I think it’s going to turn a few heads. More importantly, I hope it raises a lot of money for such an important cause.”
Mark Winterbottom, Team18 driver, says, “Wearing a pink helmet for the Gold Coast 500 is very close to my heart. My mum passed away from breast cancer, so I know first hand how devastating this disease can be. That’s why supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation means so much to me, and I’ll be proud to wear this helmet as a tribute to her and everyone else who’s been affected.”
April Harwood, Chief Franchising Operations Officer at JAX Tyres & Auto, says, “Partnering with champions David Reynolds and Mark Winterbottom, we hope to make a lasting impact through the auction of these uniquely crafted helmets, painted by the talented Trent Rogers from 6Star Custom Paint.”
Both drivers are no strangers to success on the challenging streets of Surfers Paradise. Reynolds, who sported a pink helmet during last year’s event, delivered a memorable front-row start and clinched victory on Sunday. Winterbottom, equally familiar with victory, has two Gold Coast wins to his name in 2009 and 2011.
The auction hosted by Lloyds Auctions for these one-of-a-kind helmets is now available online only and will conclude at 5pm AEST on Monday the 28th October, with 100 per cent of the proceed going towards breast cancer research to support NBCF’s mission of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
