Michelin Joins Hydrogen Council Steering Committee
Michelin has joined the Hydrogen Council Steering Group, with the goal of accelerating hydrogen mobility solutions to assist in overcoming the major challenges of climate change.
22 new members joined the Hydrogen Council in 2020, and of these, five, including Michelin, are steering members. They are all united by a shared vision of developing hydrogen technology to advance the speed of energy transition. The practical implementation of that vision, is an action plan to support the massive ramp-up of hydrogen solutions, with the goal of decarbonising transportation, construction, and industry. For Michelin, becoming a steering member represents a new responsibility that fits perfectly into its sustainable mobility strategy.
The Michelin Group has lofty ambitions for hydrogen. It aims to accelerate deployment of hydrogen technology, become the gold standard operator for zero-emissions mobility, and go a step further to be the global leader in hydrogen systems. To that end, in November of last year, Michelin and Faurecia formally founded their joint venture to develop hydrogen technology: SYMBIO, A FAURECIA MICHELIN HYDROGEN COMPANY. Michelin believes that hydrogen technology will play a key role in the large-scale development of electric vehicles and in achieving the goal of zero-emission mobility.
"Hydrogen technology can be used to store renewable energy. It is currently difficult to store wind or solar energy in large quantities, or for extended periods. With hydrogen, it will be possible to store energy, and so develop not just electric mobility, but also renewable energies, which are key to preventing climate change."
