Hankook Tyre Australia Introduces Ventus R-s4, a New Semi-Slick Tyre with Extreme Ultra-High Performance
Hankook Tyre launches Ventus R-s4, its new semi-slick tyre equipped with race-inspired technology and performance
16 August 2017 (Sydney, Australia) – Hankook Tyre Australia announced the release of the Ventus R-s4, its new extreme ultra-high performance (UHP) tyre. As the successor to the ‘Ventus R-s3’, Ventus R-s4 is designed with maximised grip, durability, and handling performance – perfect for both track and general driving.
Hankook made sure that the Ventus R-s4 ensures maximum performance under extreme racing conditions, but could also perform well in normal driving conditions. The new tyre was tested at the Korea International Circuit located in Yeongam by professional racing drivers and Hankook test engineers to ensure that all these requirements were met.
In terms of design, Ventus R-s4 is structured to support the philosophy of “strong movement.” All edges of the tread pattern are designed in a geometric chamfer to enhance the tyre’s durability and to prevent tread surface damage. The gradually angled slant chamfer maximises the contact surfaces with additional stresses caused by high speed driving and heavy braking. As a result, the tyre’s design gives the best driving experience in both straight-line and circuit driving.
As for technology, Ventus R-s4 consists of aggressive directional pattern technology with:
1) Wider-centre block which improves steering response
2) Two-channel main groove with hydroplaning functionality
3) Variable groove angle which offers optimised block stiffness
4) High stiffness shoulder blocks to enable improved steering response and cornering grip
Furthermore, the tyre is equipped with multi-tread radius technology. Its “Quattro Tread Radius” profile maintains maximum grip at high speeds or heavy cornering loads, thanks to its racing technology derived from Hankook’s international racing exploits. Ventus R-s4 also offers maximised wet performance by adding hydrophilic silica, by improving functionalised polymer and by increasing stiffness and heat generation of compound with functional resin applied.
Finally, with strong uniform foot-shape technology, Ventus R-s4 maintains the best footprint shape and pressure of the tread to improve grip consistency and control performance. As a result of improving the overall structure, the tread has an optimum heat-generating footprint in any movement so that even in repeated laps, high grip levels are sustainable.
All in all, Hankook Tyre is confident that Ventus R-s4 will once again represent the company’s technology leadership globally, particularly as developing racing-oriented tyres requires the highest level of development technology.
