Five Creative Ways to Recycle Tyres

The number of cars on the road is growing in Australia and as a result tyre manufacturing is on the rise too. Each year, Australia sees the equivalent of 48 million tyres reach the end of their lifecycle, yet only 16 per cent of these are being correctly recycled[1]. The impacts associated with the incorrect disposal of your tyres could potentially harm people’s health, damage the environment and become a huge expense to remove.

At JAX Tyres, we ensure that every used tyre from our stores is collected and processed by our waste management partner Tyrecycle, and turned into its constituent materials for recycling into a new product.

Recycling tyres the correct way can be extremely beneficial on land and even on sea to create products which are used daily. For example, recycled tyres can be used across sporting surfaces, in civil engineering applications and even for marine non-slip surfaces.

In celebration of National Recycling Week (7-11 November), we’re loving the below five creative ways tyres have been reused:

1. Outdoor garden bed – a great way to revamp the garden this Summer with a few tyre garden beds, vegetable patches or herb plots.

2. Backyard Playground – an outdoor favourite for the kids! From a seesaw or mini obstacle course, to the beloved tyre swing, the kids won’t want to come back inside.

3. Interior décor – while it is hard to picture a tyre as feature wall art, we think this stylish tyre mirror looks perfect for the hallway or living room wall.

4. Dog Bed – this is our favourite! Who knew a new bed for the furriest member of the family could be made from recycled tyres!

5. Storage – a fabulous idea for that Spring clean and a godsend for decluttering a room.
