The Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 tyre has been approved by Porsche as original equipment for on-road use on the new 911 GT2 RS.
The Sport Maxx Race 2 will be fitted in sizes 265/35 ZF 20 (99Y) XL and 325/30 ZR 21 (108Y) XL.
Porsche gave the Dunlop tyre its approval after intensive testing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany and on Porsche’s proving ground in Nardò in Italy.
“The Sport Maxx Race 2 is a great evolution of the previous Sport Maxx Race and an excellent match for our 911 GT2 RS, in terms of dry performance, grip and steering precision. Dunlop fully understood our requirements,” Jan Frank from Porsche said.
Dunlop says its motorsport experience is a fundamental asset when designing and developing ultra-high-performance tyres for sports cars such as the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
It describes motorsport as representing “the ultimate test and proving ground” as it enables Dunlop to collect substantial amounts of data, feedback from drivers as well as allowing it to compete directly with other tyre brands to push the boundaries of innovation.
“Winning a 24H race is the ultimate test of durability, performance and consistency for any tyre manufacturer, and Dunlop succeeded in transferring what was learnt at 24H Nürburgring and at 24H Le Mans race into on-road performance tyres,” the tyre maker wrote.
“Working to develop a tyre for platforms like the Porsche 911 GT2 RS means making full use of our experience in motorsport and our capabilities in delivering tailor-made solutions for the most prestigious OEMs,” added Nick Harley, managing director OE Consumer EMEA.
The Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 is also approved for the Porsche 911 GT3.
