The opening round of the endurance race 2020 24H SERIES powered by Hankook, a global leading tyre maker, was held at the Dubai Autodrome circuit for three days from January 9-11.
The 2020 season of the main races of the 24H SERIES, the 24H SERIES Europe and 24H SERIES Continents, started with the opening round in Dubai. From there, the competition will continue to span eight rounds in seven countries, crossing continents from Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Portugal, France, Spain, and to the United States.
Global premium supercars such as the "Porsche 991," "Lamborghini Huracán," "Mercedes-AMG GT4" and "Audi R8" participated in the race, which was meant to run continuously for 24 hours, but because of the torrential rain in Dubai it was cut short, for safety reasons, to under 8 hours.
The Dubai Autodrome circuit is 5.9 kilometres per lap, in the middle of a desert, and normally the geographical conditions mean that strong sandstorms occur with hot and dusty climatic conditions, and thus tyres need the highest levels of durability and grip. In this race, however, wet tyres were needed because of the unusual torrential rainstorms that swept Dubai over the weekend.
Luckily, the Hankook Tyres, supplied exclusively since 2015 as the official title sponsor of the ‘24H SERIES’ give the best racing tyre performance to satisfy drivers in all extremes of driving environment. Based on its global quality and technical skills, Hankook’s tyres, with their global top tier technology and premium brand value, have equipped all racing vehicles participating in the competition up to and including this year, and the official title '24H SERIES Powered by Hankook' is used in all of the competitions.
The race was won by the Mercedes AMG GT3 of the Black Falcon team, who completed 168 laps in the shortened race, and they were followed by 2 of the Audi R8s in second and third place.
The AtlasBX motor sports team who have been dominating Korea’s top racing competition the CJ Super Race, participated in the 24H SERIES for the first time in Korea. In Dubai, and under the lead of Cho Hang Woo, CEO and driver, with Masataka Piloyanagi, Kim Jong Kyum, and Park Jae Sung, who won the 2019 Ferrari Challenge, they won the "GT4 Class" with their Mercedes-AMG GT4 vehicle. They ended up on 153 laps, about 2 minutes ahead of the second place in their class.
Meanwhile, Hankook Tire is proving its technological prowess as a global top tier company by supplying racing tyres, or sponsoring participating teams, in leading global motor sports competitions such as "DTM," "F3 America" and "Formula Renault Eurocup." Moreover, Hankook Tire is spearheading the development of motor sports culture, becoming the first Korean auto industry company to specially produce motor sports trailers, and a strategic meeting and resting area for the sponsored teams.
